What are some tips to getting better at black ops?

I currently suck at black ops.

What are some tips that will help me get better, such as what should I be doing during the games?

Here's a few really specific tips that are easy to put into use:

A silencer can be VERY helpful if you're not great at the game, because it stops you from being overwhelmed when you shoot. Try it if you can afford the slot.

Unless you're positive only your team is nearby, never, ever run through a building unless you have Steady Aim Pro. If you and the enemy meet, and you're running and he's walking, he gets to shoot first. You're almost guaranteed to lose. SAP lets you aim down your sights faster when sprinting.

Check your corners. I try not to run into unsecured buildings until I've thrown a concussion grenade.
If I'm out, then I spin in a circle the instant I get inside to make sure there's no enemies camping in the corner of the room.

ALWAYS check your back. Never face one direction for more than a few seconds, and always make sure you're not being followed. A great example is on Launch. Whenever I have to run across the no man's land in the center, the first thing I'll do is turn around and lie down for a few seconds to make sure no emeny saw me and is coming in for an assassination. It's saved me so many times.
